"Ital Farms was started in the late fall of 2017. After acquiring land from a previous urban farm, I began to apply what little farming knowledge I had under my belt to the land. Coming from the cannabis industry and permaculture world, I didn't know much about production farming. After a winter of research and youtube videos, we began planting. In the first season, we grew over 10 crops and had huge success and huge failures. While still working a full-time job as a produce manager at the Great Basin Food Co-op, I had my work cut out for me. After our first season in 2018, I knew this is what I wanted to do for a career. We began in-door and greenhouse microgreens production in the fall of 2018 as a way to supplement income throughout the winter. Coming into my second season as a farmer and the first season full-time, I have really begun to feel like we are doing things right. At Ital Farms we are passionate about local, small scale, organic agriculture. I believe we can shift this world's fate by just changing the thing we do three times a day. I appreciate all the support everyone has shown over these last almost two years and I look forward to growing more food for this amazing little town. Eat Local Food!"

What does Ital Mean?

Ital is food often celebrated by those in the Rastafari movement and is derived from the English word "vital". Ital refers to foods being in a natural state; unrefined and organic. When cooking with Ital foods it is believed to put you in closer relation to Jah and all of creation. We at Ital Farms firmly believe growing health food puts us all closer to each other and all forms of creation.
